Welcome! Your questions and suggestions are always welcome. I hope you enjoy, learn, and grow from my commentaries. My commentaries are meant to start dialogues, peak curiosity, and spark a desire to seek out other perspectives and viewpoints. I’m glad you have joined me in this journey! I am humbled by the broad scope of my followers from all backgrounds, walks of life, and countries around the world! For anyone who reads my words through a translation program, I hope my intentions and meanings aren’t changed or distilled in any way. When I utilize American idioms, clichés, and colloquialisms, I try to make it clear I am doing so.
This is Laura Weakley’s blog about current events from a Jewish Spirituality viewpoint, which sometimes includes other blogs she has commented on, when they are relevant. Laura Weakley may also be found on hubpages.com, sometimes regarding the subjects on this blog, but also on others.
The Torah portion, or parashah, read in synagogues across the world each week. The Torah is also known as the Five Books of Moses, although some mistakenly refer to the Tanakh as the Torah. The Tanakh includes the Five Books of Moses, along with prophets and writings. The Tanakh is what Christians are referring to when they use the term “Old Testament”. While I know why it is referred to as such, it is an oxymoron, because for one, G-d didn’t get it wrong the first time, and another reason is because it contains answers to everything within its pages as it is as relevant today as it always was. This is why - amongst other things - it is referred to as the “Living Torah,” or “The Tree of Life”. Probing the Torah’s mysteries can only be done through study, not simply a cursory reading. Every time one reads the words within it, one comes to the “table” with a different amount of knowledge, experience, and a different perspective. While this is true, one must also study with others in order to learn from the many levels of meaning.
