Fireworks!

Fireworks!
I can’t restrain myself from saying this...as all of you well know, yesterday was the Fourth of July, a celebration of the independence of the United States, a country I love. The United States was built by immigrants, and my own grandparents were immigrants. The White House played Neil Diamond’s song, “America”, last night while shooting off firecrackers. It is actually a tradition to play this song. I love that song. However, last night I felt the Obama Administration was either completely missing the whole point of the song and the celebration, or in complete denial about how hypocritical it was to play it during a time when we are “cracking down” on immigrants. I won’t even expand on how the U.S. once sent my brethren to their deaths by not allowing them into the country. I know the Jewish people aren’t the only ones our country has sent to our deaths. Words have substance and form and power, so if the US is going to proudly display the Statue of Liberty, think about what it means. Act rightly. Generally, I am proud to be an American; however, the U.S. has been giving me more and more reasons to be disappointed. I normally try very hard to refrain from venting, but it is truly becoming incredibly difficult lately. My purpose is to teach, and as a teacher I am a leader. Sometimes, being a leader involves letting others see our emotions. After all, Moses lost his temper occasionally, and he was our greatest leader of all! As far as immigration is concerned, I understand Arizona wants to stop the trafficking of slaves. Thank G-d! This is, however, a completely different issue and should be viewed as such.
Please don’t think for single second I would ignore the Obama Administration’s misguided and unenlightened “handling” of Israel. I am a Jew through every cell of my being. As such, I simply find it unwise to write when I seethe with anger!
Quite frankly, it doesn’t need to be the 4th of July for me to see fireworks when it comes to our policies regarding Israel. If you’ve learned anything from what I’ve been teaching, you know Israel never should have been stopped before they completed the job of annihilating Hamas.
